Since it's the beginning of the year and in the spirit of goal-making, here are a few thoughts related to goal attainment.
Years ago, I used to assess the week and assign targets based on where we ended up and what I need to do the following week.
After a while -- the comfort of time and the week made me lose track of the day. When you're trying to get somewhere -- no days are waste-able.
I realized as it relates to my goals and ambitions and targets that the only thing that matters is today.
You can plan for tomorrow. Next week. This month. But the only thing that matters is cramming those things into today.
Progress happens now.
You have to take the plan and mush it into today. Right now.
Today's battle plan is sacred.
Execute today. Make the call, write the chapter, email that person, record that podcast.
Tomorrow is only relevant when it’s today.
So the mission becomes -- how can I take parts of my overall goals and bring them into targets I can execute today to chip away at those each day until done?
Goals will not just happen. You have to force them into today.
Years ago I realized in sales that this week doesn’t matter. Nor does the month or quarter. Today matters. And the actions done today to lead to the week, month and quarter.
Don’t peer off to the future. It’s a distraction from the now. Force your thoughts and actions to do it now.
This takes discipline and conditioning of your mind and thoughts and carried through to sweeping actions.
Don’t let your dreams slip away by operating on tomorrow. Force it in today. Make it happen.
Do this and you will realize your goals.
